Belvedere Summer Residence

Beach House by ECHE in Belvedere Tiburon, CA

This home sits on a lagoon in Belvedere, California: a verdant enclave that was once one of the Bay's major islands and is now part of the Tiburon Peninsula. This modern residence serves as a weekend retreat for a young San Francisco family with high-paced careers who found in Belvedere the perfect place to enjoy the long days of summer. The process of restoring the house to its original midcentury simplicity and streamlined beauty was a major engineering undertaking - new foundations, radiant heating and solar systems as well as a new three-tiered outdoor deck (with a custom built-in stainless steel hot tub) were just some of the updates that took place during the renovation. The goal for this project was to come up with a visual language that felt accurate to the home’s original midcentury modern identity, while also communicating a relaxed, summery vibe in all the finishes, furnishings and artwork. Interior architecture, design and project management by ECHE. Design partners: Holscher Architecture (Belvedere, CA) & Jennifer Bloch Landscape Architecture (Berkeley, CA)
