Chelsea Duplex Penthouse/ renovation and interiors
Known for her amazing eye for gut renovations, interior architect and designer Elizabeth Steimberg chose to open the layout of this 3,500 square foot duplex apartment in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, owned by a European couple who worked with Elizabeth for all of their properties in New York.
The client’s love of mid century furniture and art as well as handwoven textiles, acquired growing up in Europe, guided the architect’s design. Minimalist mid-century and modern aesthetics were pulled together with textured fabrics with hues of grey, brown, black a touch of vivrant colors, red, yellow, orange, purple, and strong materials such as stone and wood with different finishes, to add texture and warmth. Among the highlights are the beautiful custom-crafted kitchen, where architect was required by client to use an exotic veneer, the breathtaking art collection (photographs by Vivian Maier, paintings by André Marfaing and so on), mid century furniture collectables ( George Nelson,Busquet, Poul Kjaerholm,Hans Wagner, etc.) and recognizable furniture pieces by European design brands such as Roche Bobois and B&B Italia. An extensive terrace, design by a Parisian garden designer completed the project .
