The client for this project was an extended family of international jetsetters led by an art collecting matriarch with a keen and fearless eye for bold color and the unexpected mix of patterns. With five children and a growing brood of grandchildren, the goal was to create a place where everyone could feel at home. The soul of the apartment resides in the china blue lacquered library with its gold leafed ceiling that houses a highly personal and eclectic collection amassed over many years of travel around the world. The home is a study in contrasts and irreverent pairings, from Chinese blue & white pottery, mixed with a pair of Josef Hoffman chairs and Bert Stern’s iconic black & white photograph of Marilyn Monroe, to a video installation of Lady Gaga by artist Robert Wilson, alongside a dining table by Herve van der Straeten and chairs by Charlotte Perriand, and classic hand painted wallpaper by Gracie holding court with a chair made of vintage tennis rackets by the Campana Brothers.
