Fryman Canyon Residence

Family Home by Assembledge+ in Los Angeles, CA

The project is a collaboration between Assembledge+ and Jamie Bush + Co, creating a serene retreat and evoking the ambiance of a treehouse that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. The home is fully clad in Western Red Cedar, both inside and out, with expansive windows and a palette of natural materials that harmonize indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a deep connection with nature. With design elements inspired by local traditions, alongside touches of Japanese and Brazilian modernism, the furnishings and features are as refined as the architecture itself.

Originally built in 1923 and remodeled by Richard Neutra in 1937, the home was an example of early modernist architecture. After its destruction in 1993, a Post-Modern replacement fell short of the original vision. The current design restores this architectural legacy, honoring its historic roots while embracing organic modernism.
