Kua Bay

Vacation Home by NICOLEHOLLIS in Kailua Kona, HI

On a stretch of rugged coastline in Kona, Hawaii, this 9,000 square foot 6-bedroom custom-built residence offers the ultimate getaway and home-away-from-home for a husband, wife and their three daughters. The family requested a modern, minimal environment for grown-up entertaining and golf retreats that would double as a down-to-earth, easy environment for kids. Nestled into the volcanic landscape, the home features floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open to dramatic vistas of Kua Bay. With an eye toward refined lines and exquisite detailing, NICOLEHOLLIS created a holistic interiors scheme inspired by the juxtaposed tranquility and movement of the surroundings. The materials palette includes rustic jute and rope, lush linens, hand-carved marble, warm metals such as brass and bronze and ebonized woods. The client desired a curated environment anchored by special, highly personalized pieces such as the master bedroom’s haute couture-inspired custom bed. The master bathroom contains a vanity and drawers hand-carved in Italy from a single piece of marble. Found throughout the property are bronze-cast, branch-shape door handles by artist Michele Oka Doner, who also created a floor-to-ceiling cast-bronze hand-polished screen for the powder room. Other custom pieces by world-leading artisans include custom lighting by Herve van der Straeten and Lindsey Adelman and furnishings by Christian Liaigre, Christian Astuguevieille and others.
