Madresfield Court

Country House by Todhunter Earle Interiors in Cheyne Walk, GB

Overlooking the Malvern Hills, Madresfield Court is arguably one of the most romantic of English Country Houses. It is the ancestral home of the Lygon family, the eldest son of which had the title Earl Beauchamp. The house has remained in the family for 600 years. Surrounded by a moat, it is Grade 1 listed and although it has origins in the 12th century, it was extensively restored and rebuilt from 1866. The novelist Evelyn Waugh was a frequent visitor to the house and based the family of Marchmain on the Lygons in his novel Brideshead Revisited. In 2014, Todhunter Earle was commissioned to make the house a home for the latest generation. This entailed moving the kitchen to the heart of the house and creating bathrooms for most of the 18 or more bedrooms. In all we tackled around 60 rooms. At the end of the process the owner wrote to us saying...”what could have been an overwhelming project turned out to be a wonderful experience!”
