Modern Mountain Retreat

Vacation Home by Margo Nathanson Interiors in Gardnerville, NV

A bright, modern home, that sits at the foot of the Sierra Nevadas, serves as a retreat for a family with a love of the American West who wanted a special place to gather and relax. The interiors bridge the sleek design of architect George Miers with warm, luxurious furnishings.

Finishes that reflect the surrounding environment were married with furnishings in a warm, textural palette; deep brown, terracotta, deep green and neutral color palette contrasts the monolithic Sierra Granite interior walls and gives nods to the spirit of the mountains and history of the West.

Iconic furniture, like the Utrecht chairs, by De Stijl pioneer Gerrit Reitveld, is blended with modern and bespoke lighting, rugs and décor. Nathanson thoughtfully designed many custom elements such as the table in the main dining room and the primary bed and nightstands.

An emphasis was put on artisanal US based designers and makers, like Ben and Aja Blanc Studio, who hand poured marbled glass sconces, and Grain design, who made an abstract shaped braided rug, both alumni of Rhode Island School of design.

The furnishings are thoughtfully arranged to showcase the true star of the show: the majestic Sierra mountains, visible from every room.
