Ranch Elegance
Pastoral and sprawling, this large ranch home was in need of an update. The heavy, Tuscan inspired details made the space feel small and crowded. The homeowners wanted a lively, open space to entertain their large extended family.
An extensive remodel for this equestrian ranch-style home created a true Great Room from the cramped 90's styled family room. Adding the space from an unused outdoor patio allowed us to create a large, open space. Changing the colors from burgundy, green, and gold to a lovely monochromatic palette of soothing creamy neutrals accented with black, helped to create the feeling of spaciousness and luxury. The chunky upholstery pieces were replaced with sleek, clean-lined pieces to help open up the space. An antique Chinese bed platform used as a coffee table provides a bit of whimsy.
The Breakfast Nook became a large informal Dining Room that is an extension of the new Great Room. A painted limestone effect was used on the existing brick fireplace, helping to set the tone for a lighter, more open and airy space. Using a bench for part of the seating helps to eliminate crowding and give a place for the grandkids to sit that can handle sticky hands. Custom-designed dining chairs upholstered in heavy-duty velvet add to the luxurious feeling of the room and can also be used in the adjacent Great Room for additional seating. The window seat cushions were updated in a serviceable ostrich print taupe vinyl enhanced by rich cut velvet brocade and metallic woven pillows, making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy the outdoors.
