G Negri called Il Boccia Baroque Figurative Painting 17th century oil canvas
By Girolamo Negri called Il Boccia
Located in Florence, IT
Oil on canvas, 62 x 51 cm (without the frame) Even if on the background there is an attribution to “Francesco Gessi pupil of Guido Reni” by the bolognese art historian Guido Zucchini (dated 1945), recent studies are tending to add it to the corpus of Girolamo Negri called Il Boccia (Bologna 1648-1718) due to lots of similarities with his style (the pale and warm palette chosen, the profile) The painting represents a lady on profile wearing a brown turban, a yellow clock...

Un homme se dirigeant a droite monte un degre
By Abraham Bosse
Located in Saint Augustine, FL
An original engraving and etching on laid paper by French artist Abraham Bosse (c.1602-1604-1676) titled "Un homme se dirigeant a droite monte un degre" 1629. Comes from the 1629 portfolio "The Garden of the French Nobles In Which One Can Pick Up Their Way of Dressing (La Jardin de la Noblesse Françoise dans lequel ce peut ceuillir leur maniere de Vettements)", a series of 18 plates. This etching is after a painting by French artist Jean de-Saint-Igny (ca. 1595-1600). This artwork is in many permanent museum collection including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Provenance: ex-permanent collection Bass Art Museum, Miami, Florida. Framed size: 16.5" x 14.5". Image size: 5.5" x 3.5". A rich impression, in excellent condition. Rare. Abraham Bosse (c. 1602-1604 – 14 February 1676) was a French artist, mainly as a printmaker in etching, but also in watercolor. He was born to Huguenot (Calvinist) parents in Tours, France, where his father had moved from Germany. His father was a tailor, and Bosse's work always depicted clothes in loving detail. He married Catherine Sarrabat at Tours in 1632. He remained a Huguenot, dying before the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, but was happy to illustrate religious subjects to Catholic taste. Roughly 1600 etchings are attributed to him, with subjects including: daily life religion, literature, history fashion, technology, and science. Most of his output was illustrations for books, but many were also sold separately. His style grows from Dutch and Flemish art, but is given a strongly French flavor. Many of his images give informative detail about middle and upper-class daily life in the period, although they must be treated with care as historical evidence. His combination of very carefully depicted grand interiors with relatively trivial domestic subjects was original and highly influential on French art, and also abroad — William Hogarth...
