"Study No. 4 for “Painting XII”" is a unique work on paper by Blanche Lazzell. The gouache on paper is signed in the lower left, "Blanche Lazzell 1929". The framed piece measures 19 1/2 x 17 7/8 x 3/4 in. Blanche Lazzell was an early Modernist American painter, known for her abstractions. Lazzell is closely associated with the art colony in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She was a founding member of the Provincetown Printers whose woodblock prints were inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e. Her works played a role in the development of abstraction in the U.S. Provenance: Estate of the Artist Private Collection, New York Private Collection
