Boothbay Harbor, Maine from the Hill
Located in Greenwich, CT
Best known for his painterly landscape views, Oberteuffer developed a fresh and vigorous style, using a subdued color palette with agile brushstrokes that was influenced by French Impressionism. Boothbay Harbor from the Hill is a wonderful example of this style of painting and shows Oberteuffer’s mastery of subtle color. It is an added plus that Oberteuffer has specifically referenced a clearly identifiable locale- Boothbay Harbor- in his title and additionally denoted that the view was painted from the hillside, potentially capturing actual homes and buildings of the time. Framed in a Gold Leaf Whistler style frame of exceptional quality. The painting has vivid and fresh color and creates a window in any room. The canvas inside the frame measures 30 x 24 inches. Signed: Oberteuffer lower right Provenance: Estate of George Oberteuffer...
