About the Item

Galloping Horses is a wonderful and original drawing in charcoal on paper, realized by the italian divisions artist Giuseppe Cominetti. Hand-signed in charcoal and dated on the lower left margin "Paris, 1916". This is a very dynamic composition of galloping horses, realized with the very rapid and fluid line of an artist who abandoned Divisionism to fully immerse himself in a more Futurist style. Including a gilded wooden frame (mounted). Giuseppe Cominetti (Salasco, 1882 - Rome, 1930) was an Italian painter of the Divisionism period. In 1902, he moved to Genoa, where he frequented the sculptors Bistolfi, Bassano and De Albertis, the painters Nomellini, Olivari, Geranzani and Schiaffino, and writers and poets such as Baratono, Martini and Sbarbaro. The close friendship with Nomellini contributed to make him definitively join Divisionism. In 1909, he took part in the Paris Salon. In the French capital, he had the opportunity to meet the exponents of the École de Paris and to collaborate as an art critic for Le Monde. Here, he also took part in Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's Futurist movement for a short period. His works are preserved at the Modern Art Gallery in Genoa, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Municipal Art Gallery of Cagliari, and the Borgogna Museum of Vercelli.
