Edward Ardizzone, CBE, RA is one of the most highly regarded illustrators of the 20th Century. He is perhaps best known for his illustrations for the Radio Times from 1930 onwards. He was appointed Official War Artist in 1940 and his work from this period encompasses scenes drawn form locations as diverse as the UK (home guard), Northern Europe, Sicily and North Africa. He exhibited throughout his life with regular exhibitions at the Bloomsbury, Leger and Leicester galleries. He taught at the Camberwell School of Art and The Royal College of Art. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1970 and awarded with a CBE in 1971. His work is held in numerous private and public collections including the Tate, the British Museum, the Imperial War Museum and the V & A.
