The artwork represents a lying naked couple.
Good condition, except for a stain in the center.
Hand-signed by the artist on the lower-left corner. Passpartout included cm 38x55
Tony Johannot (1803 – 1852) was a famous French painter, illustrator and engraver. Among his most famous illustrations: those of the Histoire du roi de Bohême et de ses sept châteaux by Ch. Nodier (1830), by Don Quichote (1836-37), by Paul et Virginie (1838), as well as all the novels by H. de Balzac.

Tony Johannot
Tony Johannot was a French engraver, illustrator and painter. Johannot learned engraving from his brothers and helped Alfred produce illustrations of books by James Fenimore Cooper and Walter Scott. Johannot came to prefer wood engraving but resumed etching in 1845. His historical paintings were exhibited at the Paris Salon for the first time in 1831. Johannot became an illustrator much prized for his elegance, his diversity and the lively character of his drawings.

Alvar pays homage to two of his favorite artists in De Piero a Picasso. Early Renaissance Italian painter Piero della Francesca and twentieth-century Modern artist Pablo Picasso frequently appear as sources of inspiration in Alvar’s homage works.
Piero, nowadays celebrated as an artist, was regarded as a mathematician and geometer to his contemporaries in the fifteenth century. Alvar recognizes Piero’s advanced knowledge of perspective and color, his geometric orderliness, and skill in pictorial construction by including a reference to Piero’s History of the True Cross in the lower left corner. The sequence of frescoes painted by Piero circa 1451-1466 is considered an early Renaissance masterpiece.
