About
A stunning pastel that to me has a bit of a Seurat feeling to it. The artist used thousands of individual strokes of color coming together in an Impressionist manner to achieve fine gradations of tone and light. I am particularly impressed by the articulation of the horse in motion, something few artists get right. Here is some bio information about the artist from AskArt:
"Primarily a landscape, still life and figure painter, she applies pastel to a ground glass museum board, or paints in oil on linen. Hails had her first solo show with much success in 1981, and since then her works have been exhibited at the National Arts Club, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Societe des Pastellistes de France, the New York Art Expo, and others. She is an elected member of the Artist's Equity Association, the Pastel Society of America, and the Maryland Pastel Society. Hails is listed in the Who's Who of American Art and her work is in numerous corporate and private collections."
The picture is matted and framed, though the frame and mat are not in great shape. I will ship it with the frame if you wish, in case you decide to clean it up a bit or even stain/paint it and use it, as it will save you framing dollars (that is probably what I would do myself). And the frame does have a nice little engraved brass plaque on it. Dimensions given are framed size; image itself is 19" x 22".
