Henrik Kobor
Untitled Nude Male Diptych, Charcoal/ Graphite on Parchment by Henrik Kóbor

1908

About the Item

This refined art nouveau diptych was realized in Hungary in 1908/1909 by the famed artist of the Austro-Hungarian artist Henrik Kóbor. It features two rectangular panels each offering male nude figures rendered in charcoal and graphite on parchment. The figures appear with their backs to the viewer, imbuing them with a sense of mystery and showcasing their athletic musculature. Each man holds a still ring, identifying them as gymnasts. Created in a neoclassical style, that harkens back to the tradition of Greek nude forms, these pieces capture the elegant physicality of their subjects in stunning terms. With their beautiful attention to detail and classical aesthetic, this diptych would be a winning addition to any style of interior from traditional to contemporary. The works are presented in a handcarved walnut artist's frames- with a subtle texture resembling woodgrain- that complement the masculine aesthetic of the works. It is in vintage condition with wear commensurate with age. They are signed and dated "Kabor 908" and "Kóbor 909" respectively. Austro- Hungary, circa 1908 Dimensions 20"W x 32"H x1"H
