This is the 1966 true 1st Edition of Ed Ruscha's groundbreaking self-published artist book "Every Building on Sunset Strip." The book itself was published in an unsigned edition of 1000. However, in 1980, exceptionally, Ruscha hand signed and beautifully inscribed this book in red ink to football legend Joe Fields.
(Joseph Charles Fields Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a center and guard in the National Football League for the New York Jets and the New York Giants.)

This historic limited edition Artists Book is in the permanent collection of the Getty Museum in California which explains its importance as follows:
In the 1960s, Ed Ruscha more or less reinvented the artist’s book. By turning away from the craftsmanship and luxury status that typified the livre d’artiste in favor of the artistic idea or concept, expressed simply through photographs and text, Ruscha opened the genre to the possibilities of mass-production and distribution. The 25-foot length of the accordion-folded Every Building on the Sunset Strip affords the viewer two continuous photographic views of the mile and a half section of this landmark stretch of Sunset, one for each side of one of the city’s landmark thoroughfare.
Among many other institutions, it also in the permanent collection of MOMA, which describes "Every Building on the Sunset Strip" thus:
Ruscha's photography books are antithetical to the traditional limited-edition livre d'artiste, or artist's book. Their banal subject matter and documentary style are indebted to the remarkable pictures of signs and vernacular architecture that American photographer Walker Evans made in the 1930s, but their deadpan, cool aesthetic is radically different. While each book chronicles an aspect of Los Angeles or the artist's round-trip drives between LA and Oklahoma, their use of photography as a form of map-making or topographical study signals a conceptual, rather than documentary, thrust.

Ilan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He enrolled in a premedical curriculum at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and emigrated to Israel in 1948. He then studied prehistoric archaeology and physical anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1956, he returned to Canada to study sculpture at the Ontario College of Art & Design. He lived in Kibbutz Sasa from 1959 to 1963. He died in 1982 in Caesarea, Israel.

Julius Schmidt is an American sculptor who earned his B.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1953 and for the next two years studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine in Paris and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. He returned to Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in 1955 for his M.F.A. in sculpture. Cranbrook was designed by architect and faculty member, Eliel Saarinen who collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames on chair and furniture design. Pierre Saint-Sorny first studied at the Royal Academy in Brussels (1932-1933) and, subsequently, at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Mons (1934-1935) where he received the Grand Prize for Design. In 1946, he resumed his studies at the Académie de Namur where he was awarded the Sculpture Prize. In 1950, he moved to Paris to attend the Académie de la Grande Chaumière which he followed with a period of study at the Centre de l'Expressionisme in Flanders.
Over the course of a long and successful career, Saint-Sorny exhibited widely at numerous solo and group exhibitions including at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and was also appointed a member of the jury at the Academie de Namur.

Pal Kepenyes, wearable art pioneer. sculptor, goldsmith, jeweler, artist, was born in 1926 in Hungary. His creative talent, specifically in creating sculpted works, was evident early on. He moved to Budapest, where he first studied at the University of Arts and Crafts and later at the Academy of Fine Arts. His professor, Beni Ferenczy was one of Hungary's most influential sculptors. Pal Kepenyes (20/21st century) is active/lives in Hungary, Mexico. Pal Kepenyes is known for sculpture, jewelry making, miniature decorative pieces especially influenced by Mexican folk art and folklore. His work also includes animals, lions, tigers, fish, nude figures and milagros.
He began his studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Budapest, and then was a prisoner of war during the Stalinist regime. In 1956, at the end of the Hungarian Revolution, he finally was released and left the country for Paris, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts.
