About the Item

ABOUT THIS PIECE: "21st Century Smokin' Cowboy (VJ-A3)" is a modern portrait painting by Addison Jones. This street art style piece was created using multiple layers of acrylic paint, paper, and ink in a collage-style on stretched canvas. This portrait painting was created from Jones's original portrait photography taken in a bar in Los Angeles. This is a hand-signed piece with a certificate of authenticity. "My model Dustin was an invigorating subject to shoot. As hard as he looks on the outside he’s actually relaxed and funny. He has both masculine and feminine qualities which contributed to me getting a variety of shots with different characteristics. When I met him to do this shoot, we hung out, had a few drinks at his favorite bar and just shot on the patio to make it feel as natural as possible. When I am shooting, I don’t really think about what the art will look like. My main goal is to get an image that captures who he is as a person. Once I have that, then I let the art form from the image." ARTIST BIO : Addison Jones is a world class photographer and mixed media artist based out of the Midwest. Jones uses her street art and mixed media style to portray models from her own modern portrait photography. The result culminates in moody, sensual, and contemplative mixed media art focusing on the humanity of the subject. Each of her pieces are original works. Addison is known for layering her own photographs into complex street art and using the written word as a subtle texture feature. She utilizes silver and gold leaf, acrylics, and custom paints, including color changing, to add layers upon layers as she goes. In the end culminating in a piece that is viewed as a complex whole. She begins each piece with a photograph from her own portfolio, and then free flows through each element, drawing inspiration as she works. She often says that her style often leads to mistakes, that later become some of the best parts of the piece. She was once quoted, "Most of the time I am like “welp, don’t like the way that looks” and don’t care if I mess up, so then I do something and I like it and then I’m like “ I love this piece,”" as each piece shifts and changes throughout the process. COMMISSION THE ARTIST: Addison is a commissioned artist with experience all over the world. For commissioned pieces she will fly to shoot photography on location and then work with the client on a mixed media art finished product.

This gorgeous artwork on paper was created initially with a screen print base of the model, then Rosie hand finishes the work with a unique splash and painted composition. Some call them Unique Prints. The base image is only used 12 times and this is the AP Rosie Emerson, born in 1981, is a contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetypes old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, an allegory of her own fantasy. Interested in surface, the interplay between photography and painting. Emerson’s works are playful constructs; Photography is used, not as a device for capturing reality but for creating romanticised optical illusions. Inspired by her love of theatre, performance, shrines and rituals, she uses lighting, costume, set and prop making, alongside printmaking and painting to create other worldly one off pieces. Her photography is inspired by both the drama of the baroque, and ethereal qualities of Pre Raphaelite works. Other important influences include late medieval and renaissance paintings, Japanese prints, and magical realist literature. Emerson’s screen...
