Lovely modern still-life of a fan and persimmons by Santa Cruz, California artist Anita Heckman (American, b.20th Century). This 1987 mixed media work on paper depicts three vivid Hachiya persimmons on a windowsill beside an elegant paper fan with a tassel. A decorative window drape in a rich Mediterranean blue with red botanical patterns frames the left of the still-life, which mirrors the deep blue colored shadows cast by the fruit and fan.
Signed and dated "Anita S. Heckman. Nov. 1987" lower right.
Displayed mounted on a white background in a wood frame.

Anita Heckman is a contemporary Santa Cruz, California based artist known for her mixed media works and monotypes, which are all about pattern, light and color, often telling a story. After decades of printing by hand, she now uses a Takach press for creating both etched and relief prints, including drypoint with monotype, linocut with chine colle’, making editions, etc. Recurring themes in Heckman’s work include fans, botanicals, and birds. Her work has been shown extensively in the Santa Cruz area since the 1980’s.
