Threads of Sovereignty" symbolizes the interconnectedness of identity, heritage, and empowerment depicted in the painting. The word "threads" represents the intricacies and complexities of the woman's hair, which is meticulously threaded and styled, reflecting the care and attention given to maintaining cultural traditions and personal expression. Additionally, "threads" can also refer to the interconnectedness of individuals within a community or culture, highlighting the collective strength and resilience of the black community. "Sovereignty" refers to the inherent power, autonomy, and authority embodied by the central figure. It reflects her regal essence and intrinsic worth, as symbolized by the crown above her head. Moreover, "sovereignty" encompasses the reclaiming of agency and self-determination within one's cultural identity, rejecting external narratives and asserting ownership over one's narrative and heritage. Together, "Threads of Sovereignty" encapsulates the themes of cultural pride, resilience, and empowerment depicted in the painting, emphasizing the interconnectedness of identity and the inherent strength found within cultural heritage. About Artist Bakare Abubakri-sideeq Babatunde was born in Ogun State, Nigeria. He completed his high school education in Lagos State and later pursued his tertiary education in Kwara State, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science. From a young age, he had a passion for art and was a self-taught artist. Over the years, he experimented with various mediums, but his favourite mediums are oil and acrylic on canvas and African wax prints in Ankara. His subject matter focuses on figure and portraiture, which aims to portray human emotions, experiences, and challenges. His paintings offer a unique perspective, interpreting his thoughts on canvas and African wax prints in Ankara. Recently, he started working on a series of paintings on Ankara fabrics as support. He was fascinated by the vibrant colours and patterns of the Ankara fabric, which inspired this discovery. He has participated in various art competitions and exhibitions, including the iCreate skill festival in 2017 and the ijakadi festival as an exhibitor. His works have been sold in Nigeria and abroad, and he continues to create thought-provoking pieces that captivate and inspire his viewers.

Threads of Resilience
By Bakare Abubakri-sideeq Babatunde
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Threads of Resilience" is a captivating painting that portrays a black African woman sitting gracefully on a chair, her hand resting gently on the backrest. She wears a stunning Balenciaga dress adorned with intricate pieces of Ankara fabric around the neck and on the sleeves. The vibrant Ankara fabric adds a touch of cultural richness to the modern fashion. The inspiration behind this painting lies in the story of a young girl named Fatimah. Her adoration for the designer dress, so lovingly crafted with a fusion of styles, is palpable. However, fate took a cruel turn as the dress was stolen while hanging on a wire, where she had placed it to dry. Despite this misfortune, the painting captures the essence of Fatimah's resilience and unwavering spirit, showcasing her ability to embrace both the beauty of fashion and the challenges of life. "Threads of Resilience" serves as a tribute to the strength and grace that can emerge from even the most trying circumstances. Shipping Procedure Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria.
