Gregory Horndeski
Gregory Horndeski was born May 14, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio. He holds a B.S. in physics, as well as a Master’s and Ph.D in applied math. In 1979, Gregory Horndeski received tenure as an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Math at the University of Waterloo. Horndeski began painting in earnest in 1981 and soon traded oil paint and brushes for acrylic paint and knives. Horndeski’s unique style developed further when he began pouring paint directly on the canvas. A self-taught painter, Horndeski lists Van Gogh, Magritte and Pollock as primary influences in shaping his expressionistic style. Gregory Horndeski’s work has been exhibited throughout North America and Europe, in galleries and museums including Groninger Museum in Holland and The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. His works can be found in the permanent collections of universities and museums such as the Houston Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Texas, the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas , the University of New Mexico at Las Cruces and the Groninger Museum, Groningen, Holland. Corporate collectors of Horndeski’s work include Dallas Morning News, Home Box Office and GTE Corporate Headquarters. In October, 1992, the Atlanta Visiting Nurses Association commissioned a painting from Gregory Horndeski which was presented to Mrs. Rosalynn Carter at a banquet in her honor.
