Jongwang Lee
Havoc in Heaven, black and blue abstract painting

2019

About the Item

Jongwang Lee's paintings challenge a dormant potential he believes lives within all humans. Inspired by Buddhist philosophies of space, Korean ideas of communication with the soul, and Eastern philosophies, Lee presents the concept of the "spacewomb"—an ideal world where the material and technological elements of the modern, physical world are escaped in a return to the spiritual haven of a womb. His paintings use a mixture of resin, oil paints, and pigments to create liquid forms: fluids, which for him represent humans, interacting in neural space. Lee's work combines contemporary qualities, like the bold colors and compositions of Pop art, with his personal lineage, through Eastern techniques such as Korean sumi brush painting. After experimenting with resin for over 20 years, Lee's latest work combines this material with oil paint and rice paper in a process that produces three-dimensional, sculptural layers.

This is a laser dyed print on paper of my garden. I applied paint and other materials to the surface to generate a new image. I consider this a land-SCAPE in the broadest sense of the word. This is a modern and abstracted image with the intent of generating a 'pause of wonderment' for the viewer. It reflects the smoldering heat of Labor Day...

  • Back to Itaca by Anna Pennati alchemy series - acrylic on canvas - 80x100cm
    Located in Milano, MI
Return to Ithaca is part of a series of works dedicated to the myth of the Odyssey. Anna Pennati has always been attentive to the theme of mythology, a subject on which she has developed a large number of works. Stylistically, the work falls among the artist's Alchemy, where the human form slowly disappears to make way for abstract forms that are actually the sublimation of figures. We can in fact see Ulysses here not only as a man, but in his entire evocative power, his archetypal. The return to Ithaca actually represents the return to our deepest origin. Important work that has been shown in several exhibitions and is now exceptionally made available for the market. Exhibitions : 2016 - Das Garten der Pitagoras - Wilhelmshaven - Germany 2017 - Onhouse Art Milano 2021 - Almach Art...
