About the Item
Small assemblage political critique. The work is newsprint cut out of an article titled "The Police of America". There are helicopters and various red splatters around the work. It is framed in a black frame with a white matte. It is signed by the artist as well as titled and dated.
Artist Biography: Lezlie Tilley born in 1949 in Switzerland. Since her first show with the Gallery in 1991, Lezlie Tilley has produced work for almost twenty solo exhibitions at Access Contemporary Art Gallery/Brenda May Gallery. Tilley has studied at the National Art School (formerly East Sydney Technical College) in Sydney and Newcastle School of Art & Design, where she completed a BA in visual arts in 1983. Since then Tilley has exhibited in a multitude of group exhibitions and numerous solo exhibitions, the majority of which have been with Brenda May Gallery. Tilley has also had solo shows at Nick Mitzevich Gallery, Newcastle Art Gallery, the University of Newcastle and PODspace Gallery in Newcastle.

A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele.
