Mirror, Hungry Eyes

2022

About the Item

Hungry eyes consume the world, driven by the primal instincts that exist within us all. Our hunger extends beyond mere sustenance—it reaches for something greater. The journey to fulfilling our deepest desires inevitably leads through the essentials we need. A mirror’s reflection reveals our present reality, a surface alive with eyes and faces staring back, confronting us with truths we may not fully recognize or admit. This piece is a fusion of layered metal wall sculpture and handcrafted silver mirror, known as a Metalamirror. Here, photons transform into a tangible material, as light interacts with hand-cut aluminum and glass, creating a dynamic, ever-shifting display. The artists' work demonstrates philosopher Marshall McLuhan's theorem, "The medium is the message'". Viewers are included into the work, where setting and environment become a part of the art promoting interconnectedness. This work was influenced by and created in the former Moross House Museum, the oldest brick dwelling in Detroit, MI, Circa 1840.
