Loves Me, 2020 20" x 14" Abstract Painting Mixed Media Framed in Plexiglass Signed *Edition of 10* TEXTURAL REVIVAL is new limited edition series by Annie Mandelkern. Annie is known for the energy in her abstract texture-filled paintings, energy that comes from her “let-loose and explore” approach. The paintings are energetic works in progress until they are not….when they are done, Annie knows they are done. This evolving series mounted in acrylic is in contrast to the textural paintings on canvas. The smooth flat surface of acrylic achieves a “trompe l’loeil” effect, tricking the eye into seeing texture when there is none. While exploring new materials, Annie is able to bring here sought after work to more people, in a different medium at a more affordable price. “I have a very let-loose-and-explore approach to my art and I don’t let anything restrict me. I have a desire to get back to basics such as drawing the human anatomy and working in black and white. Perhaps this quest for simplicity comes from the hectic pace of my life. My art allows me to express my personal aesthetic and find tranquility” - Annie Mandelkern Annie Mandelkern was born and raised in New York City and has devoted her educational and professional life to art. She attended New York’s highly selective Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts and then earned a BFA at Syracuse University. Annie has worked in many facets of art and design and began her interior design career working for several prestigious firms in NYC. She now heads her own interior design firm. Some of Mandelkern’s paintings and works on paper are inextricably bound to her work as an interior designer. She is often commissioned by her clients and for these projects, she imagines what she would like to see in a particular space as a designer, and then creates it as a fine artist. In her non-commissioned work, Mandelkern works on several paintings at once drawing inspiration from quotidian encounters with people, objects and experiences. In much of her recent work she employs mixed media including acrylic, charcoal, ink and some collage elements. Annie Mandelkern lives with her husband and three children in Port Washington, New York.
