About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Aerial Ferry” is a 16 x 12 inch mixed media abstract collage on 1950s graph and ledger papers. Bits of text from a vintage cavalry book overlaps fragments of acrylic monotypes with textured botanical forms in bright orange, yellow, blue, teal, and dark purple. Tiny black and white figures of soldiers on horses, a military jeep, an aerial cable, and a strip of ivory graph paper with aqua rules accent the surreal composition. The graph papers, book images, and text are from DeSalvo’s late father, and the monotypes were created using a Gelli plate. The 10.75 x 9.5 inch image is mounted on archival paper in a natural wood 16 x 12 x 1.75 inch frame with glass. Title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.
