Monica DeSalvo
"We didn't take the plane", surreal, abstract, green, blue, yellow, red, collage

2018

About the Item

Monica DeSalvo’s “We didn’t take the plane—the plane took us!” is a lively 30 x 22 inch surreal collage on paper. Abstract areas of lime green, red, royal blue, and deep yellow embed items such as space machinery and a lemon rind. The collage is built on a digital enlargement of acrylic monotype remnants created with a Gelli plate, and the surface is embellished with pastel, colored pencil and marker. The square 18 x 18 inch composition sits in the middle of the paper creating a large white border at the top and bottom. The title is a joyful quote from DeSalvo’s late father and is written below the image with the signature. Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.
