About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Lucidity” is a 38 x 24 inch digital reproduction of a surreal collage on paper embellished with mixed media. Yellow arcs cascade into areas of pink, red, and psychedelic purple on the base layer’s monotype enlargement. Elements such as lavender and curls of spaghetti blend into distorted fields of color, strengthening the arcs and creating depth with contrast in scale and texture. The original monotype was created using a Gelli plate. Pastel, marker, and colored pencil are added to the top layer of this final iteration on archival watercolor paper. The unframed work has a white border, and the title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
