2024

About the Item

This contemporary round painting features a finely detailed portrait of a man wearing a mustard-yellow hat, set against a calming blue background. The Japanese text encircling the piece reads "私の人生は旅である" ("My life is a journey"), underscoring themes of exploration and self-discovery. The artwork combines realistic portraiture with bold typographic elements, creating a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity. The round, coin-like design reinforces the universality of its message, while the vibrant contrast between the blue and yellow draws the viewer in, making it an eye-catching and meaningful piece for collectors of contemporary art. The Currencies series by Natasha Lelenco is designed for versatile display, working either as a standalone contemporary artwork or as part of a modular art installation, allowing collectors to create custom panel compositions that adapt to any space. The impeccable finish and sturdy material ensure its durability and elegance, while the smooth surface enhances the clarity and vibrancy of the colors. This unique combination of painting and sculpture makes the piece adaptable to various display contexts. About the Project: Part of Natasha Lelenco’s Exchange Currencies series, this artwork transforms personal reflections on migration and identity into universally resonant symbols. Each piece in the series adopts a circular format inspired by coins, highlighting the transactional and cyclical nature of cultural exchange. Through the use of multilingual text and vivid color palettes, the series invites viewers to reflect on shared human experiences of movement and belonging. These works are designed to stand alone or be grouped in dynamic multi-panel installations, offering flexibility for collectors and curators. "Ben-day Sophia 1" Mixed media, Acrylic, spray paint, pigmented ink 36x28 canvas
By Ceravolo
Located in Southampton, NY
"Benday Sophia 1" pays tribute to those paintings that became the trademark of Ceravolo's unique and trend setting style of painting. His work is collected worldwide and is in many important collections including, Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Hugh Hefner and Prince Jefri of Brunei to name only a few. In addition to those, his paintings came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create 5 large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City. In this painting, Ceravolo has featured an image of his pop art painting of Sophia Loren, and combined it with a pattern of benday dots to create the basis of "Benday Sophia 1". He then paints his trademark brush strokes and textures on the canvas over the pop art portrait. Then, he paints the "floating" illusion that creates the 3d floating effect he is known for. The Canvas measures 36x28".
