Nobuyoshi Araki Biography
Japanese photographer, Nobuyoshi Araki, is primarily known for his provocative images that combine fine art and photography. Working primarily in black and white photography, the subjects of his work range from food and flowers to Tokyo street scenes. Much of his work refers to Japanese cultural traditions. This is seen in his series, Kinbaku (1979), which features a multitude of photographs of young women in sexual positions, inspired by the Japanese art of rope-tying. Araki has gone on to photograph female musicians such as Bjork and Lady Gaga.
His love of photography began at an early age, whilst at infant school in Japan. He saw this through, developing his skills at Chiba University, where he studied film and photography. Following the repercussions of the end of World War Two, his work responded to the rapid commercial growth in Japan. Alongside popular culture, Araki’s work is heavily influenced by his personal life. He acclaimed fame for his series of photographs in 1971, Un Voyage Sentimental, a series of intimate images of his wife on their honeymoon. He also published Winter Journey in 1991, which documents the final days of her death.
Araki became a key figure in the art world in Japan, after receiving the Taiyo Award in 1964 for his photography project about a boy called Satchin. He has been featured in galleries internationally at many solo exhibitions and contemporary art shows including The Cartier Foundation, Paris (1995), and Contemporary Japanese Art, Hayward Gallery in 2001.

Nobuyoshi Araki
Nobuyoshi Araki is famous for his provocative, erotic photographs and prolific production; over 500 books have been devoted to his work. Araki has depicted flowers, food, figurines, and bodies with a distinct sensuality that reaches its apex in his close-up shots of female genitalia, pictures of women in traditional Japanese rope bondage, and photographs of Tokyo sex clubs. To Araki has been dedicated exhibitions at Tate Modern, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna, among other institutions.

Tom Judd Biography
This is a lovely mixed media painting by popular Philadelphia based artist, Tom Judd. Provenance: Estate of Patrick Eddington. Patrick Eddington was a Utah school teacher who had the improbable idea of writing to his favorite artists and asking them to draw or paint pictures of cats. “This project is a labor of love," Eddington wrote of his endeavor in a 2004 letter. “It will culminate as a large book and traveling exhibition. It will also help Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I’ve asked individuals I admire to create cat-related works. They are not the typical cat images but creative works.” Patrick Eddington passed away in early 2016 and his vision was, unfortunately, never realized. Nonetheless, artists like Keith Haring, Joel Peter Witkin...

cast glass, wood, sheet metal, oxides, acrylic paints
Dan Corbin's sculptures are a convergence of conceptualism and the human figure, illuminating what it feels like to be alive during current times, with all its beauty, complexity, contradictions, and possibilities. The artist’s sculptures address issues of contemporary society - materialism, industrialization and cultural change - while simultaneously referring to a wide range of human emotions. His sculptures lift the spirit while questioning what it is to be human. In Corbin’s archetype of man, intellect and soul are separate from the body. Armless, headless, anonymous cores can now be broken down to the smallest units, analyzed, engineered, beautified, and commodified.
Corbin’s articulation of figurative sculpture takes iconography of the present and embeds it in the surface of his sculptures. He calls these miniature time capsules ‘inclusions’. Objects like cosmetic bottles, action figures, dolls, and feeder fish are sealed in resin and strategically embedded throughout the body. With these ‘inclusions’ the figure becomes a technologically enhanced vessel. The human body is no longer a container for a perfect being, handed down by god or evolution, but an aesthetically enhanced harbinger of a new era. In combination with the ‘inclusions’ Corbin uses a multitude of industrial materials, emphasizing the intrinsic value and physical properties of each. Each surface becomes fully charged with content, primed for multiple interpretations.
Dan Corbin has been included in notable exhibitions at galleries and institutions including the Museum of Northern California Art...
