This piece is part of Philippe Jestin's signature series, Stripe Pose, which uses sculptural stripes to form the human figure. "I explore different renderings of the human figure, definition, identity, with stripes of resin, offering different lectures between the figurative and the abstract, going back and forth," says Philippe. The relief is created with pigmented resin cast on wood panel and sealed with white acrylic paint. The finished work has a sculptural dimension with a decisive edge much like in a bas-relief.

Philippe Jestin's work straddles the line between the figurative and the abstract. He works with material as well as subject matter to define new spaces and create a sense of fluidity. His most iconic work features layers of resin to create strong lines. Many of his pieces have a sculptural dimension and a decisive edge like a bas-relief.

About the Artist
Artist Diana Chelaru paints colorful expressionist interpretations of human emotion. “Art is a means of communication, it is how I express my thoughts, hopes, regrets, and joys,†says Diana. She experiments with working on large-scale paintings using the visual language of form, lines, and color to create compositions that exist only in her imagination. Growing up in Romania, she draws inspiration from Byzantine mosaics as well as Gustav Klimt’s subject matter and use of decorative patterns. She received her BFA in Painting from George Enescu Art University and finished her MA in Art History from Queens College. Diana simply goes with the flow rather than dwelling on the formulaic process. It all depends on how and what she feels at the moment. She indulges in music while she creates her work.
