About the Item

Renaud Bihi Untitled Bois brûlé et plumes Burnt wood and feathers 107 x 20 x 66 cm 42.1 x 7.8 x 25.9 in. Renaud Bihi, an artist of materials and a man of contrasts, has had a singular career in the art world. Once a well-known florist, he has made a remarkable conversion to a more perennial and authentic art form. Two decades ago, Renaud decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Paris to settle in Brittany. For him, this region embodies proximity to nature, direct contact with the earth and stone. It was here that he became the proud owner of a 17th-century manor house near Dinard. He then devoted part of his boundless energy to renovating this magnificent residence. From an early age, Renaud was a passionate do-it-yourselfer who loved to create with his own hands. Floral art, architectural renovation and artistic practice are all catalysts for his creativity. Renaud Bihi has also trained as a plucker, enabling him to blend the delicate, light art of featherwork with more raw, industrial materials. Renaud’s main inspiration lies in his encounter with matter, often favoring modest materials such as wood, silicone or building materials, which he sometimes combines with noble materials like diamonds or gold. What might seem banal to some takes on a new life under his expert hands. With each new material, he embarks on a learning curve, manipulating tweezers and blowtorches, wood glue and chainsaws alike. Whether using industrial, mineral or vegetable elements, Renaud’s artistic work transforms him into an alchemist capable of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Renaud Bihi embodies the fusion of craftsmanship, creativity and art, reminding us of the beauty hidden in the simplest materials. His life’s journey reflects his commitment to authenticity and connection to nature. He remains an unclassifiable artist, letting his creativity blossom as his inspiration and passion for materials take him.

François Benoit Lison (1968 - ) "Lointain" Oil on canvas 100 x 81 cm 2022 Born in Granville, France, on April 14, 1968, François Benoît-Lison began with a figurative approach, which gradually evolved into abstraction, first lyrical, then more contrasting, where black reigns supreme. Black is a sacred color, sometimes dark, sometimes dazzling, without limits, it can be dominant or gentle. After acrylics and oils, bituminous pastes and inks opened another door, that of the abstract, much more profound and contemporary, with the possibility of working these materials in many aspects and forms. Since the 1980s, the artist has been offering us works imbued with research, reflection and philosophy, charged with a strong, raw message, highlighting his thoughts and leaving an indelible imprint. Abstraction is his adventure, his freedom, his struggle, his dreams, his rage, his solitude. Works by Jackson Pollock, Caravaggio, Egon Schiele, Pierre Soulages and André Marfaing...

Yukio Yamamoto Untitled Ceramic 1988 Approx. 19 x 22 x 12 in COA provided Comes with original papers Ref.: 924802-1011 Yukio Yamamoto was born in the Ako district of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in 1925. In 1953, he spent a year as a research student at the Tanabe class of the Department of Ceramics at Kyoto Institute of Technology. Yukio studied the history of pottery of the past centuries of this well-known Hemiji Castle domain. He would also research kiln designs through fieldwork as his thesis project. By 1954, he built his first Noborigama chambered climbing kiln in Tenjin-Cho, Himeji City, teaching the old-world firing process classes. This would become the first step in Yamamoto’s revival of the Tozan style of Anagama and Noborigama down-draft style wood-fired kilns. In 1600, the kiln process had been at its height and had mainly provided wares to Himeji Castle. As an artist, he typically worked in ash-covered high-fired unglazed ceramics...
