About the Item
Sarah Alexander's "When the Storm is Over" is a rich watercolor on canvas with accents of genuine white gold, watercolor made from crushed semi-precious stones, and India ink carefully drawn with a dip pen and liquid ink. Leaves and vines sway wildly intertwining with purple beads and strands of pearls painted with purple and gold paint made from bloodstone, tigers eye, malachite, and other earth tones. The chosen materials are symbolic of the preciousness of life and what we hold dear. The edges are bordered with twisting lines with influences of Art Nouveau, accented with white gold leaf. The hand stretched 44 x 54 inch canvas is gallery wrapped, and wired for hanging. Framing is not necessary.
Sarah Alexander is a contemporary mixed media artist with an emphasis on watercolor and drawing using unconventional surfaces and techniques. Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, and abroad. Her work has been published by North Light Books. Alexander is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
