About the Item

About the artist:
Taylor Smith is a multimedia artist whose work examines discarded technology, popular culture and
consumerism.
Smith uses a wide variety of materials and mediums, including reclaimed silk screen frames, luxury
brands and commercial packaging, 8mm film, street advertisements, reappropriated paintings, and, more

recognizable imagery to explore social awareness through abstraction and figuration with elements of
science and technology, traditional still life and portraiture.
Smith has exhibited in North America and Europe, and she has works in many high profile collections,
including the Eli Lilly permanent collection, the Madeleine Albright collection, the Cleve Carney Museum
of Art and many others. She currently lives and works in Indianapolis, IN.

Rake's Progress Bedlam Cufflinks, 2020
Hand painted using special enamel paints and finished with 18ct gold plate for a luxury finish in bespoke box
1 in diameter
Original David Hockney designs from the 1975 production of opera The Rake's Progress.
Makes a superb gift!
Inspired by an original recording conducted by Igor Stravinsky and William Hogarth's series of eight paintings and engravings of the same name, Hockney began designing the set and costumes production of The Rake's Progress. Through his designs and the use of his now iconic cross-hatched etchings, he wanted to create a 20th century response to the opera and to Hogarth's 18th century idea.
These cufflinks are based upon those Hockney etchings...

Bardol Thodol literally means liberation through hearing and comes from The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Bardo is the transitional state between death & rebirth. Lovers of jazz and music in general will be all too aware of how one can be transported to this suspended state when listening to music. This state is expressed beautifully in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and here we quote directly from it
"remember the clear light, the pure clear white light...............Let go into the clear light, trust it, merge with it. It is your own true nature".
