About the Item
Signed "Gris Camacho" on Bottom
This Mata Ortiz Black Pottery is a beautiful handmade jar created by Griselda & Juan Camacho. They are members of the Casa Grandes family of artists. Building the walls one coil at a time & outside firing are traditional. Painted without the use of mechanical aids, the eye dazzler squares complement the ovals painted with animal effigies. Stone polishing creates the matte & sheen contrast.
Griselda Camacho de Silveria works with her husband Juan as a team but only Gris signs the work. She is referenced in "The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz" & "The Miracle of Mata Ortiz".
