About the Item

L.A.S. Rue Caulaincourt, Paris, November 3, 1935. (21x27 cm). Perfect conditions. In French. The wistfulness for the days spent at Marlia with the Countess (renewed by the photos that Countess has sent to him), and the invitation to his Alcool show, are the topics of this letter, visually studied with puzzles of letters and create with a composition, as if it was an artwork, which take inspiration from the Calligrams of Apollinaire. Marcoussis is the pseudonym of the French-born Polish painter Ludwig Casimir Markus, who come from a wealthy Jewish family in Warsaw. He moved to Paris in 1903 and gained French nationality thanks to the value demonstrated during World War I. He makes his first impressionist paintings and earns by selling caricatures to satirical magazines, including "La Vie Parisienne" and "Le Journal". Attentively attends coffee as La Rotonde, Cirque Medrano and L'Ermitage, where he meets Edgar Degas around 1906 and Braque, Picasso, Gris and Apollinaire in 1910. Apollinaire, the influential poet of the Calligrams, suggests him to adopt the French pseudonym of "Marcoussis", inspired by a suburb of Paris near Montlhéry. The Apollinaire's influence will never abandon him.
