From Villa Morra Metelliano in Cortona, Alberto Moravia writes this postcard of greeting and thanks to the Countess Pecci-Blunt, or Mimi, the patron of arts and the closed-friend of artists and intellectuals. The Italian writer thanks her for the wise and pleasant people met during the Parisian stay, at one of the Countess' residences. The background: During the period of this correspondence, Moravia has just started his carres as journalist: in 1927, Moravia met Corrado Alvaro and Massimo Bontempelli and they founded the magazine 900. The journal published his first short stories, but his life changed when he published in 1929 Gli Indifferenti, noteced by the critic. A fine Cape Cod scene with fisherman heading out on the dock in heavy fog by American artist Tod Lindenmuth (1885-1976). Lindenmuth was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and later worked in Provincetown and Rockport, Massachusetts, with a home in St. Augustine. A founder of the Provincetown Art Association and one of the original Provincetown Printers, Lindenmuth was a semi-abstract painter and graphic artist who did much to promote modernist styles and was well known for his modernist, semi-abstract and marine subject paintings. Lindenmuth studied with Robert Henri and was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the Rockport Art Association. During this period, Bontempelli was close to the Fascism, and as a member of this political movement and for literary honors he gained the chair for the Royal academy of Italy. He served as a secretary of the fascist writers' union and spent time abroad lecturing on Italian culture. promoting Italian Culture was the common mission of the Countess Pecci-Blunt and Bontempelli. However, in 1938 he was kicked out of the Fascist party, drifting towards Communism.
