The process begins with the careful arrangement of paper strips, overlapped to create depth and dimension. This technique not only highlights the materiality of the paper but also explores how it interacts with ambient light, producing natural shadows that bring the piece to life.
Once the structure is mounted on the canvas, colors are applied in a monochromatic gradient. The dark colors smoothly transition into lighter tones, culminating in a point of white light. This gradient not only adds sophistication to the piece but also simulates the natural progression of light, giving the artwork an organic and fluid aspect.
The use of sustainable materials and environmentally friendly methods is not merely an aesthetic choice but a philosophy that permeates my entire artistic practice. Each piece is a tribute to the balance between nature and art, inviting the observer to reflect on the beauty and fragility of our world.
Rodrigo Franzao is a contemporary Brazilian artist who lives and works between New York, New Orleans, and São Paulo, focusing on creating textile art and mixed media.
