Beppe Guzzi (Genoa, 1902-Rome 1982)
Among the founders of the Labronico Group (1920), Beppe Guzzi was a self-taught painter, with Macchiaioli beginnings. His first solo show was at the Bottega d'Arte in Livorno in 1924. In the following years he participated several times in the Venice Biennale and devoted himself to teaching. In addition to his activity as a painter, Guzzi continues to work as a master glassmaker. In 1937 he presented his invention at the Universal Exposition in Paris, the Termolux Artistico, a sort of colored work immersed in a glass parallelepiped that gave rise to fluorescent effects. In 1939 he was present at the Rome Quadriennale, an exhibition in which he participated on other occasions in the 1950's. In 1945 he moved from Livorno to Rome, where he came into contact with the painters of the Roman School. In 1951 he was part of the commission for the preparation and positioning of the works of the Quadriennale. During the fifties, Beppe Guzzi develops an increasingly synthetic pictorial language, with large chromatic backgrounds.
In 1963-64 he exhibited at the Peintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui exhibition, organized in the Middle East and North Africa.
