Stefano Cairoli
Typewritten Correspondence by Stefano Cairoli - 1940s

1947 - 1949

About the Item

This is the typewritten correspondence between Stefano Cairoli, the historical Milanese gallerist of Galleria della Spiga e Corrente (Siena, 1897- Milan, 1972) and Beppe Guzzi, written between 1947-1949. In Italian. Excellent condition, with usual aging signs. On letterhead paper "Galleria della Spiga e Corrente". In detail: Typewritten Letter Signed by Stefano Cairoli. Milan, January 8th 1947. One page, single-sided; T.L.S. Milan, January 13rd 1947; T.L.S. Milan, January 22nd 1947, a long and confidential letter; Typewritten Postcard Signed. Milan, October 6th 1949, with visible stains and aging signs. Rich of technical details such as prices, oil paintings to exhibit, request of short biography, or participation at solo and group-exhibition, this correspondence reveals us the importance of the relationship between the artist and his gallerist and merchant of art. Absolutely to collect! Beppe Guzzi (Genoa, 1902-Rome 1982) Among the founders of the Labronico Group (1920), Beppe Guzzi was a self-taught painter, with Macchiaioli beginnings. His first solo show was at the Bottega d'Arte in Livorno in 1924. In the following years he participated several times in the Venice Biennale and devoted himself to teaching. In addition to his activity as a painter, Guzzi continues to work as a master glassmaker. In 1937 he presented his invention at the Universal Exposition in Paris, the Termolux Artistico, a sort of colored work immersed in a glass parallelepiped that gave rise to fluorescent effects. In 1939 he was present at the Rome Quadriennale, an exhibition in which he participated on other occasions in the 1950's. In 1945 he moved from Livorno to Rome, where he came into contact with the painters of the Roman School. In 1951 he was part of the commission for the preparation and positioning of the works of the Quadriennale. During the fifties, Beppe Guzzi develops an increasingly synthetic pictorial language, with large chromatic backgrounds. In 1963-64 he exhibited at the Peintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui exhibition, organized in the Middle East and North Africa.
