UnknownA Banjo. Art Deco Era Musical Instrument With Wood Inlay. Achille Jacomoni.
About the Item
Banjo. Art Deco era musical instrument to be restored in inlaid wood.
Signed on the handle Achille Jacomoni, the signature is made with the pyrographed technique.
Materials: Wood, metal, parchment.
A bird that has exotic and fairy-like features.
The inlay is made on the background of exotic wood, probably rosewood, with various woods of different colors.
On the edge of the inlay you can see a writing, perhaps a further signature of the cabinetmaker (?)
The instrument is sold as a beautiful decorative object, we have not verified the functioning of the instrument, even if it appears to have a good sound, characteristic of the banjo.

On the back the fine tablet is strengthened (already in ancient times) by a sheet of parchment.
About 1600-1610.
As often in Mannerist / Late Renaissance portraits, the image of the character is accompanied by the writing that runs at the top, adding a celebratory, historicising touch to the effigy. Let's bring back the sentence here:
DON FRANCISCO DE REINOSO. CAMARERO SECRETO IESCALCO PIO QUINTO OBISCOPO CORDOBA. 68 (? O 7?)
(1534, Autillo de Campos, Spain - 1601, Córdoba)
Francisco de Reynoso was a Spanish cleric, chief chamberlain, and secretary to Pope Pius V, abbot of Husillos, and bishop of Córdoba.
He was the fourth of eleven children. His father was the seventh Lord of Autillo de Campos, and his mother was Juana de Baeza y de las Casas, daughter of Manuel de Baeza, a lawyer of the Royal Council and at the Court of Valladolid.
Francisco de Reynoso was deeply devoted to the Virgin Mary and showed a strong inclination toward religion and piety from an early age.
He studied Latin, arts, and theology at the University of Salamanca.
In 1562, he traveled to Rome with his brothers Pedro and Luis.
In January 1566, following the death of Pope Pius IV, Cardinal Antonio Michele Ghislieri was elected pope, becoming Pius V. From this period until Ghislieri's death in 1572, Francisco de Reynoso served as his chief chamberlain and secretary.
After Pope Pius V died, Francisco de Reynoso returned to Spain and lived for several years in the city of Palencia, where his brother Manuel was a canon.
He supported the Society of Jesus when it was established in Palencia, providing alms to the school's clergy and funding chairs of Letters and Theology at his own expense, as well as donating a significant number of books.

Man with Hat. Double-sided Portrait on Wood Panel. Turin, 1930s

Man with Hat.
Double-sided Portrait on Wood Panel.
Turin, 1930s
This double-sided portrait, painted in oil on a wood panel with a man wearing a hat on one side and a woman on the other, dates back to Mario Bionda's years of contact with Felice Casorati. The painting reflects the influence of the magical realism of 1930s Turin and the Group of Six of Turin. The figures, immersed in a suspended, contemplative atmosphere, embody a metaphysical realism that characterizes Bionda's artistic exploration during this period.
From the family of a collector and antiques dealer who had a direct acquaintance with Mario Bionda and participated in organizing one of his exhibitions. This direct connection with the artist grants the work historical significance, linking it to the cultural circles of Piedmont at the time.
Biography:
Mario Bionda was born in Turin on July 25, 1913. From 1927 to 1933, he studied privately in Felice Casorati's studio, participating in group exhibitions organized by the master in various Italian cities such as Milan, Genoa, and Turin. At only 17, he exhibited at the 17th Venice Biennale with the work Case e neve, and in 1935, he participated in the Rome Quadrennial.
After spending time in Monferrato and Asti, he moved to Milan in 1939, where he founded a small toy factory, which he left to his sons in 1954 to devote himself entirely to painting. He collaborated with Alfredo Chighine...
