About the Item

Blue Abstract Painting with hand symbol by Moroccan artist Abderrahman Banana - mixed media on canvas, framed. Signed front, lower right. Size: 50 x 39 inches Abderraman Banana's painted symbols oscillate between figuration and abstraction. In its figurative state, the symbol holds anthropomorphic aspects (i.e., a hand or 'Khamsa', eye, character...), zoomorphic aspects (such as fish), or natural ones (the sun, earth, sky, water, land...). It embraces the cosmic as if to recall ancient marriages between the visible and invisible, the terrestrial and celestial, human with the divine. His symbols portray the world as an indecipherable enigma. Preceded by time and being science, and technology and all its coding and decoding systems, the symbol remains the source from where everything is born. It is the 'originator' who resists amnesia and mystification. Consciously or not, Banana does not manipulate the symbol for ornamentation but uses it to express something more profound and exacting obscurely. He wants to interrogate and unveil illusions and false assumptions. At the chromatic level, Banana's palette is limited to several hues surrounded by a dark outline drawn in the most natural pigment that he cherishes: henna. His principal colors are blue, ochre, yellow, and light green. Sometimes, one notices the presence of white. Filling is a pretext to avoid the constraints of composition, while the curves, hues, and reductions are a nod to primitive art. Banana repeats and recycles some secular principles of composition that were already experimented with in popular arts (such as pottery) using repetition, alternation, inversion, and symmetry. Obvious Reasons - Abstract Versus Figurative Painting with Aqua Blue Colors
By Parris Jaru
Located in New York, NY
Parris Jaru's Obvious Reasons is a 24 x 20 inches oil painting. The main colors are yellow, blue and brown. The surface is defined by a thick impasto of paint, made with plant-based pigments that Jaru collects himself during his long exploratory trips through India. This painting is part of a new series that concentrates on using natural colors only. Natural Indigo, Turmeric, Hibiscus, Beet Root, Rosemary Leaf, Aloe Extract, and Holi Powders to name a few, mixed with Babul Tree Resin. Though the overall composition is abstract, there is a perception of figuration. A very thin wavy white line runs through the contours of the figures, defining an image within the image. Parris was born in NY and grew up in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica until he was ten years old. Partly Jamaican and Blackfoot Indian...
