There’s been a lot of gray and stainless steel in decorating in recent years. For someone tentatively thinking of introducing some fresh excitement into their minimalist maison, consider this painting. Inspired by the 20th-century Spanish master Joan Miró, the unknown painter imagined undulating, floating abstract shapes. And these can morph through your eye into whatever you want them to be. Entertainment galore.
Incidentally, this painting’s stretcher mark identifies it as made by Anco Bilt Wood Specialties of Glendale, New York, attesting to the work’s creation in the United States at some time between 1934 and the 1990s when the trademark expired. But the fun hasn’t.
