About the Item
"Orange Marmalade" is a 24 x 30 inches, original landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is framed and signed "Lachman" in the lower right.
"I try to approach each painting with a minimum of predigested information. I look at the world with the natural curiosity of a child, always looking for unique qualities that each new moment brings. Talent, I believe, is found in the ability to take risks, and with that in mind, I am continually willing to risk it all every time I paint. The most exciting paintings, for me, are the ones that balance a bold fresh approach with the sensitive and subtle workings of the heart and mind.
I paint intuitively - if it feels right, it is right. If it feels wrong, it is wrong. I paint loose, free and spontaneously, not only because it satisfies me, but because it allows the viewer to involve themselves visually and emotionally. Their imagination is ignited from my own, and in that, they complete the work.
I am constantly experimenting with new materials and technology that can become a portal to creativity."

Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman studied at Syracuse University, School of Visual Arts, and the Art Students League of New York. During the course of his 70 years as a fine artist, Lachman has traveled extensively, painting thousands of works throughout the United States and abroad, with a focus and deep love for the American landscape. Throughout his career as a painter, teacher, author, and juror, Lachman has received numerous awards. He was honored for his lifetime achievements and contributions in American art by “Who’s Who in American Art” (2005-2006). In the ensuing years, Lachman became known for his pastels as well as his oil paintings. He was honored and received “Best of Show”, “The Joseph Giffuni Memorial Award” presented at the 20th Annual National Exhibition by the Pastel Society of America at the National Arts Club in New York City. This award is the highest honor bestowed upon any U.S. pastelist annually. He was further honored as a Director on the Board of Control of the Pastel Society of America and one of the original founders and first instructors of the PSA School for Pastels, which is the only one of its kind in the U.S. Lachman achieves unparalleled luminosity and depth in his works by painting on a clear surface developed by the artist himself. Allowing him to paint on both sides, and adhering any medium, this surface brings vitality and a unique physical dimension to his works. Lachman is an artist that seamlessly synthesizes the atmospheric nature of American Impressionism with the expansive and expressive bands of modern and abstract expressionist colorfield painters. His combination of vibrant color, surprise, abstraction and realism create a world of exploration that is present in his ample body of work. Lachman’s paintings are represented in numerous prestigious public and private collections and continue to garner the attention of art collectors internationally.

"Awash in Hopeless Love" is a 18 x 24 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is framed and signed "Lachman" in the lower left.
"The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would make it known. Being both innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm.
Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within."

"This Passing Night Was Heard" is a 18 x 24 inches, original, abstract townscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is framed and signed "Lachman" in the lower left.
This Passing Night Was Heard. In his book, Secrets of a Crazy Artist, Lachman writes: "Creativity comes from inspiration, and we are inspired and influenced by others, by their uniqueness. I believe that everyone is special and has something to offer. This is how we grow, by giving ourselves to others, and by so doing we give value to our lives. I want to thank all of the wonderful people in my life who have shared their uniqueness with me and helped make me more than I was."

Abstract Expressionist Composition on an Orange Field - Oil on Canvas
By Peter Witwer
Located in Soquel, CA
Multi-Color Abstract Expressionist Textural Mid-Century Abstract by Peter Witwer
A bold mid-century abstract expressionist piece exploding with heavy texture and vivid color by San Francisco artist Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). Darker colors are layered atop each other, building up from white, yellow, and red through greens and blues into dark purple and black. The composition is surrounded by an orange field, creating a strong contrast.
Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of Witwer pieces.
Displayed in a vintage wood frame.
Linen size: 30"H x 16"W
Framed size: 31.25"W x 17.25"W
Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle. Then to a San Francisco Collector and then to Robert Azensky fine Art
