Alberto Murillo
Spanish artist Alberto Murillo plays liberally with colors in his paintings — from subtle gradients to stark contrasts — and his vibrant hues dance their way through lively shapes and patterns in works that draw on Color-Field painting and Abstract Expressionism.
Murillo finds inspiration in fashion and magazines as well as architecture and lands throughout his native country and Latin America. His paintings reflect the moods of cherished locales, and he endeavors to capture the structure of their streets and buildings by way of abstraction. Murillo’s work speaks to the modernity of cities and the placid serenity of the countryside and seascapes, expressed in forms that invite the viewer to look deeply into the canvas.
Born in Madrid, Murillo has traveled extensively and lived in London for many years. The former interior designer and self-taught artist has shown his work throughout the United States and Europe, and his art is part of many public and private collections. The Givenchy family, the Coca-Cola company and Colliers International all hold Murillo pieces in their collections.
Murillo now lives and works in Tampa, Florida.
