About the Item

Through fluid strokes, rhythmic details, and archaic beings, the work shows us the artist's interest in exploring color. This abstract landscape is built by stages of primary colors, starting with the strokes of yellow, then magenta, and cyan at the end. In addition to the transparency that the ink grants, new colors result from the combination of the primaries. This piece was created simultaneously with others, allowing the artist to be intuitive with her process and the elements that she integrates into each of the paintings. Nature is a central theme in Alejandra's work, and with this surreal landscape, we can notice her profound curiosity about the cycles that occur in the natural world that turn out to be transformative and ever-changing. In addition to integrating elements of the natural world, the artist makes extensive reference to the realm of dreams, which she constantly records in her journal. So the work results in a surreal landscape inhabited by these magical beings that could exist in other realities. Besides the organic elements, small geometric details build the space in detail. With these lines of geometric volumes, the artist seeks to refer to the rationality of the human being and our constant need to find familiar references in the things we observe. Alejandra builds environments. Across media, references to bio-diversity, home, and a totemic past dance together in color and light with a unique and universally symbolic porousness. Lithe, primordial creatures scamper across surfaces before bursting into three dimensions. The sounds of crickets and birds attune our senses to often-overlooked life-affirming details. And loose, dynamic brushstrokes allude to a moment when her world began. But the compositions’ meticulously crafted supports offset this newness and improvisation. Whether a painted panel (with all sides carefully considered), a pedestal, or a wall, she painstakingly finds the entirety of her works as fully formed messages of hope. The inside of the frame is hand-painted with a color that reflects creating a halo of color caused by the color bouncing off the white surface of the frame.
