About the Item
History of the Horizon (2) is by young Cuban artist Alejandro Jurado who lives and paints in his studio in Havana, Cuba, The painting is 60 x 50. For shipping purposes it is best to be sent rolled in a tube to save on shipping cost. The gallery suggests just having it stretched and not framed to keep it simple.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
All part of my personal experience, of connected moments in memory, the stories of each work are timeless, they flow with each other, past present and future work as a whole.
The composition and structure of the landscape is only to locate them in time and space, you can see references to a certain place, but everything is from perception and interpretation can be places that have not been inhabited from there comes the abstraction, it is physical. a landscape from within to talk about autobiographical themes.
Personal stories and experiences that are not shared, only the feeling that in each work something happens and that something is very important to be painted, this explains serial works always function as an archive of each stage, each personal change promotes the production of a new series.
The musical references have a great weight since they are the soundtrack of each story, hence the wink in the titles, none of this is evident, it is only an ambiguous reference.
A testament in sights and sounds.

Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame.
On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms.
Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it.
Artist Statement:
" I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes.
The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it".
