About the Item
Painting that is not only material but evokes images shaped by relationships and contrasts between light and shadow that define the languages of personalities close to sculpture. Andrea Mariconti creates pictorial matter capable of satisfying not only the need to represent but also the need to touch, almost penetrate the painted surface. His works constantly engage with memory through the use of natural materials such as ash, wax, oil, and earth. The only color he uses is white. The recurring subjects of his work are bundles of straw, forests, and cliffs overlooking the sea. Andrea Mariconti was born in 1978 in Lodi. He graduated in 2001 from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, specializing in Visual Arts, and in 2006 in Set Design and Performing Arts. In 2005, he participated in a workshop led by Anselm Kiefer in preparation for the installation at Hangar Bicocca, "I Sette Palazzi Celesti." Since 2003, he has exhibited regularly in Italy and has been featured at major contemporary art fairs. In 2011, he was the winner of the UNESCO Prize for Contemporary Art. He lives and works between Cremona and Milan.
