About the Item

Abstract expressionist Ann Shogren depicts vivid landscapes and paints tapestries of colors that have simultaneously calming and rejuvenating effects on her audiences. Having lived in Iowa, Utah, and the California Wine Country, Shogren draws inspiration from the landscapes that surround her, creating energetic, colorful compositions that seem to have their own life upon the canvas. Shogren lives and works in Paso Robles, California. Though Shogren begins each painting with a plan, she allows herself room to change and adapt to what she feels the painting requires to capture the energy of the surrounding landscape. The carefully chosen colors -which contrast, compliment, and clash with each other all at the same time- give life to Shogren’s paintings and create the dynamism that viewers find so compelling and relatable. Shogren began her career remarkably early, selling her first painting at the age of 8 and still shows no sign of slowing down. She received her BA in Fine Art at the University of Iowa and her MBA in both Business and Management at the University of Portland. Shogren’s vivacious work has been showcased in many public and private collections throughout the world. Collections that show her work include the Louvre in Paris, France, where she was a featured artist in the SEE.ME Exhibit; the 2013 Venice Biennial in Venice, Italy; the GZ Basel Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland, where she won a silver award. Shogren's work has also been featured in galleries in Springdale, UT; Santiago, Chile; Santa Fe, NM; Glen Ellen, CA; and Healdsburg, CA.

Wild Flowers
By Novi Lim
Located in Boston, MA
Artist commentary: I like to transport my mind to a calming place, inspired by memories, and complex organic elements found in nature. Playing with colors and movement, creating new compositions -- my best work comes when there is freedom to create without any strict plan. With intuition and spontaneity taking over, the result is often a surprise. To me, everything flows, and there is always a sense of balance and harmony that can emerge out of disorder. I love the ambiguous and mysterious nature of abstraction. Through self-discovery and experimentation, I am allowing dynamic energy that manifests through the joy of creating. The result is loose interpretations of anything that exists between the mind and reality, therefore each painting is unique and sometimes inexplicable. About the Artist: Ethereal and calming, Novi Lim's painting transports its audience to a land that is both dreamlike yet familiar. Lim Finds inspiration in the natural world, and seeks to capture their essence through an organic and sensory creative process. In the artist's own words: "Often, imagining a mythical flower that blooms and lit up in the nighttime or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers which makes me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli." Guided by instinctive feeling, Lim lets the movements of her paintbrush flow as she experiments with atmospheric lighting, transparency, and color. The result is an ambiguous landscape that treads between the subconscious and waking world. A Flurry of Wild Flora, floral art, meadow art, affordable art, original art
Located in Deddington, GB
A colourful array of wild meadow flowers. Painted in an expressive and abstract style. Painted with energy and passion for the subject. Inspired by my love of colour, pattern and flowers. Painted using a professional quality stretched canvas using gold standard acrylics. Sealed with acrylic varnish to protect the surface of the canvas. Jan Rogers, artist, is available to buy online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. She says: "Since discovering Kandinsky at a very early age I have been obsessed with vibrant colour and pattern. I later discovered William Morris and I knew I wanted to spend my life creating pattern, in particularly I was going to design wallpaper. After graduating from art college I set up my own business as a freelance surface pattern designer, selling to a worldwide market of home furnishing manufacturers. This was a wonderful and rewarding career until the industry began to change. As we now live in a digital world the requirement to create and manipulate design on a computer took away the joy and thrill of an ever changing journey that creating as you go allowed. I needed to break away and find a new way of creating, inventing and expressing the energy and passion designing once gave me. So since 2017 I have been painting, inspired by my love of flowers and the British landscape and seascapes it's the perfect way forward for me and wonderful to experiment with new mediums and subjects without restriction. I like to think each painting is a further development of the previous one and that I am continuously growing, evolving and discovering new art as each week passes." A Flurry of Wild Flora...
