About the Item
Anne Johnstone’s 24 x 24 inch abstract acrylic painting, “Long Time Comin'”, features two face-like profiles facing each other. The left profile displays purples and reds with a striking eye of black and white vertical lines intersected by purple, evoking fragmented vision through bars.
The right profile is darker—deep black and green tones with bright red scribbles above. This color contrast highlights dialogue between light and dark, clarity and obscurity. Near the right eye, a rectangular area contains muted bands resembling a barcode.
Jagged lines and overlapping shapes create tension, representing clashing perspectives or inner conflicts. Rough brushstrokes convey raw emotion, making the piece feel alive. The sides are unpainted and the work is signed on the back.
Anne Johnstone‘s subject matter is her interior world. Her paintings and drawings are color dense and emotionally charged images about her inner life, everything from personal struggles to physical awareness to the world around her. Using acrylics and canvas collage on her paintings, she creates tightly knit compositions that vibrate with stilled energy. In her oil pastels, layered color takes on hard-to-define hues, while shapes bulge, defining space with both humor and determination. Her drawings combine crayon and gouache with pencil to create psychological dramas. Her style is most akin to abstract expressionism, with bold brush strokes which scribble and drip and declare themselves here for the action. She often uses a glazing medium to enhance the transparency of her colors, making visible the history of color application. “I am drawn to imbalance and asymmetry in my work. I seek to bring attention to those qualities while creating solid compositions.”

Artist: Roger König b. Dessau, Germany (1968) Master student of Kurt Schönburg, HWK Halle, Germany.
König combines modern painting with acrylic with old techniques and in this way, he connects contemporary art with tradition. The natural clay color bestows the pictures with a completely special dim texture which stands in an exciting contrast with the delicate luster of the acrylic color. The features of the clay color allow a more intensive treatment of the surface. Often, there are lines, scratches or breaks in the surface, as if the canvas had been covered with a fair patina. More subtle strokes in the color bring graphic characters to mind, color gradients natural phenomena, divided canvasses the contrast which is immanent in everything: the principle of yin and yan.
Roger König's works are in private collections worldwide. His admirers include leading figures in international business, film and media.

"abstract NINETEEN", Multicolor Blue Green Pink Red Painting by Aaron A. Young

abstract NINETEEN
Acrylic and collage on canvas
2018
36x48
Abstract NINETEEN NINETEEN is one of the largest paintings of this ever growing body of work by Aaron A. Young. Referencing the work of Sam Francis, Frankenthaller and deKooning, the abstract color fields and interrupted lines are meant to draw the viewer into the piece to find an ever evolving composition. Using a continuously changing palate of colors and a multitude of layers of paint and collage, the work conveys texture and weight derived from obliterating some details of the past while accentuating others. With this, the process of the piece is preserved, creating almost an archeological experience for the viewer; discovering details the deeper you look. Hard edges meet soft, spontaneous and organic drips of paint overlap with meticulously created linework. The typography of old newspaper is hidden, yet also framed, by brushstrokes making windows into the inner layers of the work. There is always something to discover.

Colorful Light Green and Red Abstract - Acrylic on Canvas by Eric K. Fiazi
Located in Pasadena, CA
Abstraction offers a unique opportunity to delve into the space between the visible and the invisible. Acting as a conduit connecting the tangible and the intangible, it encourages us to explore various interpretations in a dreamlike state.
In this abstract oil painting by California resident artist Erik Fiazi, the canvas is full of dynamic, nervous brush gestures, evoking images that might recall a continent or torn fabric. Whether it is the phalanges of a fist ready to burst and rip the canvas or a nation symbolized by colors that could be similar to those of a flag. There are so many possible interpretations. In any case, the work releases a raw and unbridled energy, Charged with a force worthy of a revolution like a raised fist, with its red which invades our entire field of vision, a rebellion underlined by the nervousness of the gestures of application of colors next to each other and also on top of each other, probably applied both with a knife and with a large brush.
There is thickness and a lot of density.
Abstraction is a challenging genre because, beyond the technique, the magic lies in the ability to penetrate the viewer's heart.
By contemplating this work through the prism of allegorical reading, we can discern the echoes of a nation in turmoil: a landscape emptied of its green splendor; in fact, green appears in the minority, invaded by the burning red of destruction and flames. The central block resembles an island adrift in a navy blue sea, evoking isolation and vulnerability after a tumultuous storm. The foam of the waves reminds us of the instability inherent in life. Yet within this chaos lies a profound lesson: while the surface may churn under the unleashing of the elements, the bottom of the ocean remains still, offering a symbolic parallel to the importance of maintaining solid foundations amidst the turbulence of life.
