About the Item

Hyperrealist oil painting of an oxidized, rusted metal road sign with orange chevron directional arrow detail by Anthony Adcock. Medium: Oil and silver leaf on aluminum Size: 15 x 10 inches. **No metal, rust or dirt was used in this painting—it is an oil painting with oil and silver leaf on an aluminum panel Anthony Adcock is a superb example of a Conceptual Realist artist who utilizes realism as a point of departure, focusing on the essence of the subject matter rather than verisimilitude. He creates his artwork by synthesizing the knowledge gleaned from three generations of builders, his comprehensive understanding of the trade, and an uncompromising studio practice dedicated to advancing realism. By combining his expert understanding of construction with the intellectual rigor of abstract painting via realism, Adcock's artwork oscillates between amazement and absurdity, challenging the viewer to trust what they see is, in fact, a hand-drafted painting. Much of Adcock's work walks the unpopulated crossroads of hyperrealism and minimal sculpture; it’s generally considered a “minimal trompe l’oeil” painting by many. His current body of work explores the similarities between the early Renaissance, specifically Giotto, and contemporary construction road signage. Using techniques and materials from the 1300s, he is rethinking the language of signage and asking questions like “What would Giotto do?” Hyperrealism, realism, realist, conceptual realism, trompe l'oeil, conceptual art, conceptual realism, construction, wood, plywood, building materials, oil painting, contemporary art, abstract art, abstraction, abstract painting, trompe l'oeil painting, realist portrait, interior decor, raw material, wood board, road sign, descent, arrow, chevron
